The Harlem RenaissanceThe Harlem Renaissance was a huge movement of African-Americans from the south to the north. The ideas behind the movement were based upon racism and many people fled to the north to avoid it.
This helped to start the jazz age and many other things as many famous African-American writers and singers became popular throughout this era. Harlem was a place in New York City. During the movement many African Americans were able to make a lot of money and show that the color of ones skin did not really matter. It was a significant addition in civil rights progression and definitely helped with African American voting rights. Many people saw an opportunity in this era to write biographies and other fiction and nonfiction books that described their lives and sometimes the hard lives of other that came before them and experienced racism. Many works from the Harlem Renaissance are still available and popular today. Some of this eras most famous authors were LangstoHughes, George Hutchinson, Dorothy West, and Robert E. Hemenway. |
